Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to drive design of high-voltage substations and mentor junior engineers. You will deliver code-compliant engineering solutions and coordinate with clients and multidisciplinary teams from concept through construction.

This senior role requires ABET-accredited electrical engineering degree and 10+ years in substation physical design, with strong communication, documentation, and multi-project management skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering (or related) from ABET-accredited institution.
• 10+ years of experience in Substation physical design engineering.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent document management and organization skills.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment and interact professionally with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design power utility substations with applicable codes and client standards; create GA, layouts, elevations, trenching, grounding, conduit drawings, BOMs, and AC/DC power systems.
• Design ground grids per codes using industry software.
• Design lightning protection and grounding plans.
• Perform AC/DC load, bus spans, and ampacity calculations.
• Create equipment and material specifications and cost estimates.
• Develop conceptual designs and facility layouts.
• Prepare documentation for procurement, construction and O&M.
• Engage with clients and site visits to collect or deliver data.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, vendors, and contractors for project execution.
