Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Lead Substation Engineer to design substations per codes and client standards, delivering complex electrical layouts and comprehensive design packages. You will prepare grounding plans, load calculations, and equipment specs while coordinating with procurement and construction teams. Required are a B.S.

in EE, 6+ years’ experience in substation design, PE license, and strong CAD skills. This role offers diverse project exposure across multiple U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Minimum 6+ years of experience in substation physical design.
• Experience in working with electricity, preferably in utilities.
• Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is a plus.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent document management and organization skills.
• Strong attention to detail and rigorous work standards.
• Ability to multi-task and meet multiple deadlines.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• PE license is required.

Responsibilities

• Design substations following codes and client standards; layouts, elevations, grounding, and power systems.
• Create ground grids, lightning protection, and grounding plans.
• Perform load, bus span, and ampacity calculations.
• Develop equipment specifications and cost estimates.
• Prepare conceptual designs and facility planning layouts.
• Support procurement, construction, and O&M with design documentation.
• Participate in client meetings and site visits for data collection.
• Ensure QA/QC in all design packages.
