Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Lead Design Engineer in Knoxville to guide a team of structural engineers on nuclear facility projects. You will interface directly with clients and other disciplines to ensure design excellence, reviews, and successful project execution.

The role emphasizes leadership, mentoring, and applying expertise in steel, concrete, and foundation design, with hybrid work three days in the Knoxville office and two remote days. PE/SE licensure is preferred.

Qualifications

• BSCE with emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• Ten or more years of experience in design and analysis of industrial / heavy commercial or nuclear facility structures.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS.
• Proficiency with design codes and standards such as ASCE 7, AISC, and , ACI.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• PE or SE license.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a structural engineering team on engineering projects for nuclear facilities and upgrades and modifications.
• Guide the team on structural design and analysis tasks, interface with clients and other disciplines.
• Prepare, review and guide design calculations, develop specifications, and coordinate drawing development.
