Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Lead Structural Engineer to lead project teams across a variety of facilities including power, healthcare, and industrial sectors. You will guide design through concept to construction, ensure budget and schedule alignment, and mentor junior staff.

The role requires ABET-accredited structural engineering education, 7+ years of experience, and strong knowledge of IBC/AISC/ACI/ASCE7 codes. Travel up to 25% is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering or related ABET program with 7+ years experience; EPC project exp preferred.
• Bachelor's Degree in Structural or related Engineering Technology with ABET program and FE exam + 7+ years exp; EPC exp preferred.
• Master's Degree in Structural Engineering with 6+ years exp; EPC exp preferred.
• Expert knowledge of structural design codes (IBC, AISC, ACI, ASCE7) and strong software skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience leading discipline design for large projects and delegating tasks.
• Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Willingness to travel.
• PE License preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Prepare structural equipment specs, RFQs, bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
• Review vendor drawings and interface with clients, other disciplines, and detailers.
• Participate in project planning, budgeting, staffing, and change orders.
• Ensure QA/QC and compliance with safety policies.
• Manage field inspections, calculations, and testing of materials.
• Present technical reports to clients and industry publications.
• Develop client relationships and identify new business opportunities.
