Job summary

Mercy Health is seeking a Clinical Unit Leader for St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital to coordinate patient care on a designated unit and support clinical staff under the direction of the Clinical Manager.

The Lead RN/Charge Nurse will foster excellence in practice and patient experience while optimizing resource use. Candidates should have a BSN (preferred), an active RN license, and at least 2 years of nursing experience with 1 year in a leadership-capable acuity level.

Qualifications

• BSN preferred; RN licensure required in state or compact license.
• BLS certification preferred; obtain before patient care where required.
• Minimum 2 years nursing experience with 1 year in acuity-level leadership.

Responsibilities

• Adjusts schedule and patient assignments to acuity, patient population, resources & care design.
• Provides guidance of staff, clinical support, and oversees responsibility for the unit in the absence of the unit leader.
• Maintains current knowledge of environmental safety standards and infection control; utilizes appropriate supplies and equipment.
• Communicates effectively with patients and their families regarding nursing interventions and plan of care.
• Rounds on patients to evaluate safety, quality, and patient experience.
• Acts as a resource to staff, patients, and family members to ensure effective communication.
• Functions as a clinical resource and role model for staff; may serve as a preceptor.
• Leads interprofessional collaborative practice to ensure care coordination and continuity of care.
