Job summary

Qualus offers a Lead Relay Field Technician position within our Field Engineering team in the United States. You will calibrate, install, maintain, and repair protective relays and related equipment to ensure safe, reliable grid operation.

You will lead commissioning, troubleshoot complex protection schemes, and mentor junior field personnel while coordinating with substation teams. Applicants should have 5+ years of field experience, strong understanding of substation protection, SCADA

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing and repairing substation relaying and control schemes.
• Experience in substation design, protection & control engineering, SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing is desirable.
• 3 phase power systems, power system protection & control schemes, test equipment and test equipment software.
• Ability to interpret wiring diagrams and perform basic test procedures with PC skills.
• Must learn and apply client switching procedures and safety measures.

Responsibilities

• Interprets project-level scope of work and leads commissioning and resource scheduling with team leadership.
• Interprets substation drawings (single line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams).
• Writes procedures or test plans supporting maintenance and construction activities including isolation plans.
• Performs testing of relays, metering, and SCADA-related verification.
• Leads troubleshooting and repair of substation relaying and control equipment; commissions substations and pilot channel equipment.
• Provides technical support to Field Service personnel and mentorship to junior staff.
• Acts as subject matter expert in protective relaying and leads small project teams.
