Job summary

Hensel Phelps seeks a Lead Quality Control Engineer (LQCE) with a strong background in managing QC on large commercial construction projects. The role involves enforcing QC policies, handling non-conforming work decisions, and coordinating with field teams to ensure compliance with contract requirements.

The LQCE will mentor junior engineers, oversee RFIs, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives while adhering to safety standards in a dynamic project environment.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree in civil/structural engineering, architecture or construction management.
• 3–5 years’ experience on large commercial construction projects.
• Strong communication skills.
• Capable of understanding specifications, standards, and code requirements across disciplines.
• Experience with Excel-based templates, Prolog, Primavera and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Review and update the project quality process log (QPL) and provide comments to the QC manager.
• Direct removal and replacement of non-conforming work and stop work not in compliance with the contract.
• Be fully aware of the contract, plans, specifications and applicable codes.
• Submit and review RFIs to ensure changes are implemented in the field.
• Produce a coordinated daily test and inspection schedule with trade partners.
• Participate in work completion tagging, punch list, and pre-final punch list processes.
• Audit trade partner QC procedures and participate in CIP and lessons learned.
• Perform safety and housekeeping inspections through the SAFE program.
