Job summary

WSP is seeking an ESSP Lead Protection Engineer with a Protective Relaying focus for our Boise, ID office, with consideration for Orlando, FL; Charlotte, NC; and other U.S. locations. The role involves leading protection system design and studies for bulk power equipment, mentoring junior engineers, and coordinating with SCADA and protection teams.

Remote work within the U.S. may be possible upon mutual agreement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited).
• 7+ years of post-education experience delivering Protective Relaying projects for power generation, transmission, and distribution.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
• Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, and harassment policies.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, engineering, and studies of protection systems for bulk power equipment (substations, lines, generators, renewables, industrial, distribution).
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers; lead project teams to meet scope, schedule, and budget.
• Collect data onsite during visits and discuss project specifics with clients at an appropriate technical level.
• Ensure protection practices align with IEEE, ANSI, and NERC PRC standards and integrate with SCADA systems.
