Job summary

CannonDesign is seeking a lead mechanical engineer to spearhead HVAC design for large-scale facilities. You will guide a multi-disciplinary team, direct complex ductwork and equipment selection, and ensure QAQC across projects from schematic design to construction administration.

The role requires a US PE license, 10+ years of experience, and strong communication with clients. BIM with Revit and energy modelling skills are essential; remote work options may apply depending on project needs.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of related experience required.
• Current PE in the United States required.
• LEED accreditation preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
• Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering.
• Ability to serve in QAQC process and as an independent reviewer.
• Must be a critical thinker.
• Must be highly analytical.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
• Able to effectively handle multiple projects.
• Must be a fully qualified professional able to perform work with a high degree of latitude.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex design of ductwork, piping and equipment for HVAC systems in large buildings.
• Interface effectively with clients and the design team.
• Serve in QAQC and as an independent reviewer.
• Mentor designers and engineering staff; provide technical leadership.
• Oversee and review the work of junior staff; conduct performance reviews.
• Utilize energy modelling software and BIM tools.
• Prepare Revit/BIM models for HVAC, plumbing and fire protection.
• Review shop drawings for compliance with specs and contracts.
• Attend Owner/Architect/Construction Administration meetings focusing on budget.
• Lead or participate in value engineering sessions.
• Respond to RFIs and change orders; manage site visits and progress reviews.
