Job summary

Humana, Inc. is seeking a seasoned Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver the NBA platform's stateful services and real-time recommendations.

You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, ensuring exactly-once semantics, traceability, and performance under heavy concurrency. You will lead a small team, write production code in Java/Python/Node.js/TypeScript, and drive reliability, observability, and platform readiness across a distributed system within a regulated healthcare

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 8+ years of full stack software engineering experience with leadership in reliability/production operations.
• Strong experience with Java, Python, Node.js or TypeScript in backend stacks.
• Hands-on experience designing automated testing frameworks.
• Strong observability practices: logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, alerting.
• Experience designing reliability patterns for distributed systems.
• Ability to lead a small engineering pod and manage contractor resources.
• Experience operating cloud-native apps on Kubernetes and container platforms.
• Clear communication of risks and tradeoffs to tech leadership.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and quality.

Responsibilities

• Own delivery for platform scale and reliability across the NBA platform.
• Ensure uptime, performance, resilience, and operational excellence; proactively identify bottlenecks.
• Build and maintain automated testing frameworks spanning unit, integration, end-to-end, regression, and performance testing.
• Contribute production code and build reliability tooling and observability capabilities.
• Own the logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, and monitoring strategy across environments.
• Define and enforce patterns for exception handling, fault tolerance, recovery, and diagnostics.
• Evaluate platform behavior under load and drive performance improvements.
• Define release readiness criteria and operational quality gates for production ownership.
• Lead and mentor engineers and contractors; conduct code reviews and uphold standards.
• Coordinate with cross-team partners to address reliability risks early.
