Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a seasoned Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver scalable, auditable real-time recommendations within the NBA Decision Intelligence Platform.

You will own the State Machine and Transactional Outbox, ensuring exactly-once emission, high concurrency, and robust observability. The role blends hands-on coding with technical leadership: mentoring a pod of engineers, setting standards, and collaborating across platform, data, and product teams to drive production

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 8+ years of full stack software engineering experience; 1–2 years leading platform reliability/production ops initiatives.
• Strong experience with Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience designing automated testing frameworks including integration, end-to-end, load testing, and quality automation.
• Strong observability practices: logging, metrics, tracing, monitoring, and alerting.
• Experience designing reliability patterns for distributed systems (fault tolerance, retries, resilience).
• Ability to lead a small engineering pod and manage contractor resources while contributing as an IC.
• Experience operating cloud-native apps on Kubernetes and containers.
• Clear communication of risks, quality concerns, and tradeoffs to technical leaders.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Copilot).

Responsibilities

• Own delivery for platform scale and reliability across NBA platform.
• Own uptime, performance, resilience, and operational excellence of platform services.
• Build and maintain automated testing frameworks (unit to performance).
• Contribute production code and build reliability tooling and platform improvements.
• Own logging, metrics, distributed tracing, alerting, and monitoring strategies.
• Define patterns for exception handling, fault tolerance, and recovery across distributed services.
• Lead initiatives to improve performance, throughput, and cost efficiency as usage grows.
• Define and enforce release readiness criteria and operational quality gates.
• Mentor engineers and contractors; conduct code reviews and uphold standards.
• Collaborate with cross-team decisioning, orchestration, activation, platform, and data teams.
