Intuit is seeking a Lead Tax Processor and SME for Payroll Tax Operations. The role demands owning the most complex escalations, governing SOPs, and coaching the team to build capacity. You will approve complex tax filings and drive process improvements across the payroll environment.

The position emphasizes accuracy, ownership, and collaboration with M1 managers and cross-functional partners to maintain compliance and performance standards.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience focused on complex tax defect resolution and multi-state filings.
• Experience as lead/SME with coaching or mentoring junior staff.
• Expert knowledge of tax regulations across US jurisdictions, including local taxes.
• Advanced writing skills to create and approve SOPs and technical documents for tax processors.
• Strong ownership of SLAs, flagging red flags, and removing workflow barriers.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary real-time technical expert for TP1, TP2, and TP3 staff.
• Own SOP authoring, technical review, and formal approval of SOPs and KB articles.
• Conduct structured quarterly coaching sessions with team members using SBIC feedback model.
• Lead or contribute to team huddles, QA sessions, and stand-up facilitation.
• Monitor WIP, backlog, and aging reports; advise staffing adjustments.
• Resolve the most severe payroll tax notices across IRS/state with audit trails.
• Approve highly complex amended Federal and State returns with audit trails.
• Identify trends and compliance risks; communicate with data-driven actions.
• Represent the team in cross-functional meetings with compliance focus.
