Job summary

Intuit seeks a Lead Tax Processor and Subject Matter Expert to drive complex payroll tax issues across multiple states. You will own SOPs, governance for approvals, and coaching to build team capability.

You will manage high-stakes escalations, ensure audit trails in IRS/state filings, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to maintain compliance and operational excellence in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of payroll tax experience with focus on complex tax defect resolution and multi-state filings.
• Experience as a lead, senior specialist, or SME with coaching or training junior staff.
• Expert knowledge of tax payment and filing regulations across US jurisdictions, including local municipal tax systems and state programs.
• Advanced writing skills to create, review, and approve SOPs and technical documents for a tax processor audience.
• Strong ownership of team SLAs by identifying red flags and resolving workflow barriers.
• A proactive, validation-first mindset with presented solutions to leadership.
• 5+ years of experience handling highly sensitive escalations in fast-paced settings.
• Experience in contact center, customer service, or back-office operations.
• Comfort with leveraging AI tools to improve team workflows.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary real-time technical expert for TP1, TP2, TP3 staff and teach resolution paths.
• Own authoring, review, and approval of SOPs and KB articles.
• Conduct quarterly coaching sessions using SBIC feedback model to close skill gaps.
• Lead or support team huddles, QA sessions, and daily stand-ups when needed.
• Oversee team WIP, backlog reduction, and aging reports to guide staffing decisions.
• Resolve severe State and Federal payroll tax notices and cross-jurisdictional issues.
• Approve complex amended Federal and State returns with audit trails.
• Identify systemic risks and communicate findings with data-driven recommendations.
• Represent team in cross-functional meetings, upholding compliance and risk mitigation.
