Job summary

Jobtailor in Annapolis seeks an experienced network engineer to lead DoD/federal deployments of Cisco SD-WAN. You will integrate routing, switching, firewalls, and SD-WAN components across ship/shore and enterprise gateways.

Role requires 10+ years in DoD environments, active clearance, and strong expertise in vManage/vSmart/cEdge/vEdge, Ansible, and Python. Expect on-site work with occasional travel and a focus on secure, compliant deployments.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in IT, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
10+ years of network engineering and integration in DoD, DHS, or federal environments.
Active Secret clearance required; Top Secret preferred.
Strong Cisco SD-WAN and routing/switching expertise; vManage/vSmart/cEdge/vEdge.
Experience with lab-based integration and ship/shore installation projects.

Responsibilities

Integrate and configure routers, switches, firewalls, and SD-WAN components.

Implement and support Cisco SD-WAN.

Troubleshoot connectivity, latency, and performance degradation.
Ensure RMF and DISA STIG compliance; perform baselining and patching.

Job description

Integrate and configure routers, switches, firewalls, and SD-WAN components
Execute deployment plans across cutter environments, shore-based units, and enterprise gateways
Ensure seamless integration with existing federal systems
Implement and support Cisco SD-WAN
Configure policy-based and application-aware routing and secure segmentation
Support transition from legacy WAN to SD-WAN architectures
Build and configure systems in CyKor’s SD-WAN lab and federal integration environments
Execute test plans, validation procedures, and acceptance criteria
Identify and resolve integration issues before field deployment
Support on-site installations and cutovers, including rack/stack, configuration, and activation
Troubleshoot connectivity, failover behavior, latency, packet loss, and performance degradation
Ensure minimal operational disruption during deployments
Ensure compliance with RMF requirements and DISA STIGs
Perform secure configuration baselining, patching, and vulnerability remediation
Support automation using Ansible and Python scripting
Develop configuration templates and repeatable deployment processes
Improve efficiency and reduce manual configuration errors
Maintain configuration documentation, integration procedures, and as‑built diagrams
Provide updates to the PMO, engineering leadership, and field deployment teams
Collaborate with Network Architects, C5I stakeholders, PMO, and field teams
Support engineering review boards and change control processes

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
10+ years of experience in network engineering and integration within DoD, DHS, or other federal environments
Proven experience with enterprise network deployments and integration of multi-vendor solutions
Active Secret clearance required; active Top Secret clearance preferred
Strong expertise in routing and switching, including BGP and OSPF
Strong expertise in WAN technologies and network transport
Strong expertise in Cisco SD-WAN, including vManage, vSmart, cEdge, and vEdge
Strong expertise in Cisco routing/switching platforms
Strong expertise in firewalls, including Cisco FTD or equivalent
Strong expertise in network troubleshooting tools
Strong expertise in automation using Ansible and Python
Experience with lab-based integration and validation
Experience with ship/shore installation projects
Experience with IRD/IDP/DOD drawings
CompTIA Security+ certification required; DoD 8570/8140 compliant
Cisco CCNP, CCIE, and Red Hat/automation certifications preferred or desired
Experience supporting DoW environments desired
Familiarity with SATCOM/constrained bandwidth environments desired
Cisco ISE and identity-based networking familiarity desired
Experience with large-scale phased, multi-site deployments desired
Ability to troubleshoot complex integration issues under pressure
Attention to detail in configuration and validation
Effective communication with engineers and operators
Willingness and ability to support on-site installations, field deployments, travel, after-hours cutovers, and on-call support
Must be able to work in DoD/federal environments and maintain the required clearance
