Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an experienced Metallic Additive Manufacturing Engineer to lead AM efforts for the 9-Engine booster program. You will develop metal AM processes, guide test campaigns, and work closely with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure robust production solutions for spaceflight hardware.

The role emphasizes hands-on materials characterization, process optimization, and delivering high-quality results in a fast-paced aerospace environment.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years directly related Metallic Additive Manufacturing experience.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in materials science/engineering or related field.
  • PI in process development and optimization of metallic AM processes.
  • Hands-on AM materials characterization of nickel, aluminum, copper alloys.
  • Experience managing technology development projects and budgets.
  • Experience with powder metallurgy.
  • Knowledge of SEM, EDS, EBSD, PSD, XRF, ICP, OES.
  • Proven experience developing and delivering test plans for analysis and qualification.
  • Proven experience developing experimental plans, analyzing data, reporting results.
  • Strong written and PC skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead tactical and strategic efforts within cross-functional AM team.
  • Identify low maturity AM technologies to improve performance or manufacturability.
  • Support a team of engineers.
  • Develop AM processes, parameters, requirements, and specifications for metallic materials.
  • Lead test campaigns, collect and analyze material properties data.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, and integration to implement requirements.
  • Implement root cause and corrective actions for AM builds.
  • Optimize AM processes to increase throughput and reduce variability.
  • Contribute to internal engineering and quality process development.
