Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking a Materials & Processes lead specializing in metallic Additive Manufacturing to advance AM hardware and processes for spaceflight systems. You will guide a cross-functional team, develop robust AM parameters, and run data-driven campaigns to ensure high-assurance parts for launch vehicles.

The role demands hands-on experience with nickel, aluminum, and copper AM, powder metallurgy, and a track record of moving technologies from development to production.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of metallic additive manufacturing experience.
  • Bachelor’s in Materials Science/Engineering or related field.
  • PI in process development and optimization of metallic AM processes.
  • Hands-on experience with measuring, analyzing, developing, and characterizing AM of nickel, aluminum, and copper alloys.
  • Experience managing technology development projects and budgets.
  • Knowledge of powder metallurgy.
  • Experience with characterization methods (SEM, EDS, EBSD, PSD, XRF, ICP, OES).
  • Proven ability to develop test plans and transition materials from development to production.

Responsibilities

  • Lead tactical and strategic efforts within a cross-functional Materials & Processes team for AM direction.
  • Identify low maturity AM technologies to improve performance and manufacturability.
  • Develop AM processes, parameters, requirements, and specifications for metallic materials.
  • Lead test campaigns and analyze material properties data for additively manufactured materials and hardware.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, quality, and integration engineers to implement AM requirements.
  • Implement root cause analysis and corrective actions for AM builds.
  • Optimize AM processes to increase throughput and decrease variability.
  • Contribute to internal engineering and quality processes for material evaluation and implementation.
