Job summary

The University of Alabama at Birmingham's Cooper Green Mercy is seeking a Medical Technologist Lead to perform, interpret, and report results on routine and complex laboratory procedures. The role includes evaluating new instruments, ensuring quality control, and guiding troubleshooting under supervision.

You will train staff, assist with CAP inspections, handle hematology, chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis and reference lab testing, and ensure compliance with CAP/OSHA standards.

Qualifications

• Associates Degree and one year of related work experience.
• MLT certification from ASCP or AMT.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot control and instrument problems; document actions and use downtime procedures.
• Verify results for clerical accuracy, clinical compatibility, and order accuracy in the computer.
• Assist with quarterly QC data, notify supervisor of errors or trends.
• Perform hematology, chemical, coagulation, urinalysis and reference lab testing per SAP protocols.
• Assist with CAP inspections and keep policies updated as needed.
• Train and review work of staff and students.
