Job summary

UAB Medicine seeks a qualified Medical Laboratory Scientist to perform, interpret, and report results on routine and complex lab procedures across body tissues and fluids. This role supports a bedside testing team providing point-of-care testing across the health system and may supervise sections as needed.

The ideal candidate holds a Bachelor's in Clinical Laboratory or related field and ASCP MLS or AMT MT certification, with BLS potentially required within 30 days.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory or related field; 1 year of related experience required.
• Currently credentialed as MLS (ASCP) or MT (AMT) required.
• BLS certification may be required or obtained within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Perform, interpret, check accuracy and report results on routine and complex laboratory procedures.
• Evaluate new instruments/methods, ensuring correct reagent prep and quality control information.
• Lead troubleshooting and monitor equipment maintenance.
• Coordinate education, computer operations, quality control/quality assurance duties, and supervise within a section as requested.
