Job summary

University of Alabama at Birmingham is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor (CGM0000I) to oversee technical, scientific, and staff activities in a clinical laboratory setting. You will plan, organize, and schedule sections across hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and phlebotomy, while maintaining quality control and policy adherence.

Qualifications

• BS Degree in Science or Medical Technology required.
• Minimum of five years of post-graduate work experience as a Medical Technologist.
• MT (ASCP) certification required.
• Preferred: supervision of laboratory personnel and knowledge of general accounting principles.

Responsibilities

• Manages laboratory personnel to ensure proper use of EMR, LIS, and department systems.
• Ensures compliance with CLIA, JCAHO, CAP, and OSHA; prepares for inspections.
• Counsels, evaluates and administers competency of staff; trains new employees and students.
• Schedules staff; approves time sheets and vacations; payroll responsibilities.
• Manages inventory and supply ordering; tracks maintenance and QC/QA data.
• Collaborates with Laboratory Manager on budget and vendor relations.
• In absence of manager, assumes all department authority and operations.
