Job summary

UAB Medicine's Cooper Green Laboratory seeks a Laboratory Supervisor to lead technical and scientific operations across hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, immunology, serology, and phlebotomy.

The role supervises staff, ensures CLIA/JCAHO/CAP/OSHA compliance, manages schedules and payroll, maintains QC/QA data, and collaborates with IT on LIS/EMR systems. This is an on-site, day-shift leadership role.

Qualifications

• BS Degree in Science or Medical Technology.
• Minimum of five years of post-graduate work experience as a Medical Technologist.
• MT (ASCP) certification.
• Preferred: supervision of laboratory personnel and knowledge of general accounting principles.

Responsibilities

• Manages laboratory personnel and schedules to ensure staffing.
• Ensures CLIA, JCAHO, CAP, and OSHA compliance; prepares for inspections.
• Counsels and evaluates staff competency; trains new employees.
• Oversees payroll and time sheets; handles staff scheduling and vacations.
• Manages inventory and supply ordering; maintains QC/QA data.
• Operates with LIS/EMR systems; reviews maintenance and instrumentation validation.
• Assists in budget development and vendor relationships.
