Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to coordinate the work of others in the Chemistry Lab, performing and interpreting chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests to aid in diagnosis and treatment. The role requires independence and expertise with equipment and procedures for the assigned area.

The position involves hiring activities, shift scheduling, performance reviews, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
• ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist (preferred).
• Five years of related experience with demonstrated leadership skills.
• Equivalent education/experience may be substituted where allowed.

Responsibilities

• Interviews prospective candidates for positions in the laboratory.
• Schedules employees for lab benches and shifts; reviews work for completeness and quality.
• Provides guidance to Medical Technologist I’s and Medical Lab Technicians.
• Interprets and correlates clinical test results with patient history and diagnosis.
• Troubleshoots testing process discrepancies and ensures quality control.
• Maintains and troubleshoots complex laboratory equipment and procedures.
