McKinstry is seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join the New Construction team, focusing on the design, coordination, and management of large-scale projects. Based in Portland, OR, the role blends engineering excellence with collaboration across preconstruction, detailing, and field teams to deliver high-performance mechanical systems.

Ideal candidates bring a PE, 10+ years in engineering design, and hands-on leadership of complex projects, including energy modeling and BIM

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering; PE licensure preferred.
• 10+ years of engineering design experience with at least 3 years in project and people management.
• Experience leading multi-discipline teams on complex projects.
• Load calculation experience with IES VE, Carrier HAP, Trane Trace, Elite CHVAC, or equivalent.
• Proficiency in Revit and Bluebeam; strong MS Office skills.

Responsibilities

• Leads and manages a team of engineers across multiple projects, ensuring quality and timely deliverables.
• Coordinates design efforts between internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
• Defines scope, design intent, and process with minimal oversight; manages changes in scope, schedule, and budget.
• Mentors and develops lead and project engineers; supports career growth.
• Drives standardized design tools adoption and participates in sales support and early-stage design.
