Job summary

McKinstry is seeking a Senior Preconstruction Engineer to join the New Construction Mechanical Department. You will manage preconstruction, develop conceptual budgets, and coordinate with project managers to ensure a smooth transition from design to construction.

The role requires 3–7 years in engineering or construction, a relevant degree, and strong estimating skills using industry tools. On-site Portland OR role with comprehensive benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• 3–7 years of experience in engineering, project management, or construction.
• Experience with a General Contractor or major mechanical subcontractor preferred.
• Basic estimating skills required.
• Proficient with scheduling software: Microsoft Project, Primavera and/or SureTrak.
• Completed OSHA 10 or 30 class is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead preconstruction management and conceptual estimates for mechanical projects.
• Own all conceptual estimates for new construction (mechanical).
• Support scope and budget management before construction begins.
• Help manage design phase, budget, risk and opportunities for budget.
• Coordinate with Project Managers for smooth transition from preconstruction to construction.
• Develop budgets and scope letters from conceptual/architectural plans.
• Mentor project team members and lead project meetings.
