Job summary

Morgan Stanley in the United States is seeking a Lead Mainframe Storage Engineer to join the Z Infrastructure team. You will help provide a highly available IBM z/OS storage platform, resilient against outages and cyber events, with DS8000 and TS7700 technologies.

The role requires deep z/OS expertise, DFSMS, DFHSM/DFDSS, PPRC protocols, and automation via REXX or Python to enable reliable migrations and proactive capacity planning across the enterprise.

Qualifications

• IBM z/OS environment knowledge and storage expertise.
• Proficiency with system utilities (ICKDSF, IDCAMS, IEBCOPY) and tape systems (TLMS, RMM).
• Tivoli catalog/allocation management for z/OS.
• FICON connectivity and z/OS access methods (VSAM, QSAM).
• Strong problem solving for complex storage migrations with minimal impact.
• Replication: Metro/Global Mirror, Global Copy; PPRC protocols.
• Cyber Safe Guarded Copy and Copy Services Manager experience.
• Resiliency products: Hyperswap & Hyperwrite; High-performance storage operations.
• Experience with ESSNI and related tooling.

Responsibilities

• Infrastructure Management: Configure and maintain IBM DS8000 DASD and TS7700 VTS hardware (DS8K HMCs).
• Data & Space Management: Design SMS configurations using DFSMS; manage data, storage and management classes.
• Backup & Disaster Recovery: Oversee replication, DR planning and routine backups (DFHSM/DFDSS).
• Capacity Planning: Monitor usage and plan upgrades to prevent shortages.
• Automation & Scripting: Write automation in REXX to streamline storage tasks and alerts.
• Incident Response: Troubleshoot outages, perform RCAs and resolve dataset access issues.
