Job summary

Ryder System, Inc. in Dover, Delaware seeks a Lead Engineer to advance the Continuous Improvement culture across the operation. You will identify and drive data‑driven CI, engineering and automation initiatives to raise safety, quality, delivery, cost and growth.

You will apply Lean tools and data analytics to map processes, lead Kaizen events, coach teams, and report progress to site leadership. This role interfaces with employees at all levels and may supervise CI resources.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or Supply Chain with 7+ years in warehousing/transportation/manufacturing, or Master’s in IE/Business/SC with 5+ years.
• 7+ years in warehousing/transportation and/or manufacturing industry, Required.
• Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Access, Excel and PowerPoint & Visio. Expert, Required.
• Data visualization (PowerBI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX, etc.) Intermediate, Preferred.
• Proficiency in Leader Standard Work, Visual Management, PDCA, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, 5S/Workplace Organization
• Understanding and experience in core engineering and data analysis functions (slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, metrics) Advanced, Required.
• Lean Six Sigma, Required
• Travel up to 10-15%
• Philosophy: Continuous Improvement / Lean culture experience
• Ability to lead cross-functional CI projects from start to sustainment

Responsibilities

• Collects data and performs statistical analysis; maps processes and identifies gaps, driving CI plans that improve safety, quality, delivery, cost and employee development.
• Manages high-impact CI projects; supports start-ups, retrofits and expansions including pricing inputs, go-lives, and certifications; identifies automation opportunities.
• Coaches employees in CI, QA, and Lean principles and applies engineering methods like slotting and labor analysis to optimize distribution/transportation.
• May supervise CI engineers and QA professionals; participates in hiring decisions and performance management.
• Facilitates Value Stream Mapping and Kaizen events; mentors process owners in lean methods for operational excellence.
• Provides regular progress reports and recommends inventory/supply chain strategies to meet site objectives.
