Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Professional Electrical Engineer with a focus on grid modernization for our Richmond, VA office. The role also considers Fort Mill, SC and Atlanta, GA locations.

You will lead and support a broad range of distribution grid modernization projects, collaborating with utility clients, internal teams, and technology vendors to deliver reliable, resilient and efficient power delivery solutions.

Qualifications

• 7–10 years of post-education experience as an electrical engineer delivering design for large capital projects.
• Strong understanding of engineering principles and ability to evaluate alternatives and present recommendations.
• Able to work across teams, self-motivated, and eager to learn new topics.
• Excellent command of English; proven written and oral communication skills for meetings and direction.

Responsibilities

• Lead modernization of utility distribution systems, including planning, justification, and ongoing support of grid modernization programs.
• Develop and review grid modernization solutions (FLISR, Volt-Var, distribution resiliency, ADMS, DER) for distribution systems.
• Collaborate with utility clients, internal teams, and vendors to evaluate needs and deliver practical recommendations.
• Build project execution frameworks to improve consistency, quality, and scalability across the practice.
• Mentor project teams and communicate technical insights through visualization and reporting tools.
• Track project schedules and budgets and support business development opportunities.
