Job summary

WSP USA is seeking a Lead Professional Electrical Engineer with an emphasis on Distribution Protection in Richmond, VA (also considering Fort Mill, SC and Atlanta, GA). You will lead protection design for utility distribution systems (34.5kV and below), coordinate with clients, vendors, and internal teams, and advance grid modernization initiatives.

Travel to project sites is expected. You will mentor junior engineers, develop relay settings, and support safety and performance improvements

Qualifications

• 7 - 10 years of relevant post-education experience as an electrical engineer delivering design for large capital projects
• Strong grasp of electrical engineering theories and ability to research, evaluate and present recommendations
• Ability to work across teams and take initiative to learn new topics
• Excellent written and verbal English communications; able to present information and facilitate meetings
• Must be able to pass client background screening
• Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health, safety, and harassment policies
• Willingness to travel as required
• Ability to learn/support other disciplines such as Grid Mod, Planning, and SCADA

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and review of protection philosophies, relay settings, and technical recommendations for utility distribution systems
• Perform engineering tasks on multiple projects simultaneously requiring protection, automation and utility operations knowledge
• Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and quality reviews for junior engineers and project team members
• Collaborate with utility clients, equipment vendors, and internal stakeholders to gather data and develop study assumptions
• Contribute to business development through industry groups, standards committees, and conferences
• Support grid modernization applications and wildfire mitigation, FLISR, arc flash and event analysis
• Travel as needed to client sites and project locations
