Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a seasoned mechanical engineer to co‑own the assembly sequence of complex TF coil sub‑assemblies at our Cambridge, MA facility. You will define scope for manifolds and magnet assemblies and address issues in collaboration with design teams.

You will also lead tool development, drive process handoffs to technicians, and provide feedback to SPARC subsystem designs to ensure manufacturability under tight schedules and stringent vacuum conditions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering required.
  • 5+ years of engineering experience in mechanical/project ownership roles.
  • Experience overseeing construction, manufacturing or assembly/integration processes.

Responsibilities

  • Co‑own and be the expert in the assembly sequence of your workstation (TF coil semicircle sub‑assemblies).
  • Define and execute new first‑encounter work scope including installation of manifolds and magnet sub‑assemblies.
  • Resolve assembly issues with design teams to meet functional and assembly requirements.
  • Proactively procure or build tools and fixtures for upcoming process ports of the workstation.
  • Own a process by testing, implementing, and handing off to production technicians for repeated use.
  • Provide design feedback to SPARC subsystems focusing on manufacturability and assembly reviews.
  • Assist in disposition of non‑conformance issues and release red‑line changes for updated sequences.
  • Support hands‑on Tokamak Assembly operations in various roles.
  • Collaborate with teammates to ensure requirements are met in high‑load, vacuum and complex assemblies.
