Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems seeks a Mechanical Engineer to own the assembly sequence for the Toroidal Field Coil (TF) semicircle sub-assemblies within the SPARC program. You will define work scope, resolve issues, and ensure the sequence aligns with the overall assembly.

This role requires 7+ years of mechanical engineering ownership, CAD experience, and close collaboration with design teams; onsite five days a week during active assembly, with exposure to high-load, vacuum and complex handling.

Qualifications

  • Engineering bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Aerospace fields.
  • 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience with project ownership.
  • 4+ years overseeing construction, manufacturing, or assembly/integration processes.
  • 4+ years using CAD software.

Responsibilities

  • Own and optimize the assembly sequence for TF coil sub-assemblies.
  • Define new work scope including manifolds and magnet sub-assemblies.
  • Resolve assembly issues with design teams to meet functional requirements.
  • Procure tools and fixtures for upcoming process ports.
  • Test and hand off operations to production for repeat use.
  • Provide design feedback to SPARC subsystems focusing on manufacturing.
