Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for the SPARC project. You will design, fabricate, and manage tooling for assembly, guide tool usage, and ensure safe, efficient integration of tokamak components on-site.

You will work with physicists and engineers to optimize assembly steps, create work instructions, and coordinate with external vendors to meet strict tolerances and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering is required.
• 7+ years of mechanical engineering with project ownership.
• 4+ years overseeing construction/manufacturing/assembly processes.
• 4+ years of experience with CAD software.
• 3+ years of experience with Siemens NX.

Responsibilities

• Own the tooling design, lifting, manipulation, and support frames for SPARC components.
• Develop overall concepts and use strategies for each tool assembly.
• Analyze tool structures and kinematics for safe operation.
• Coordinate with system teams for optimal assembly logic and steps.
• Assist alignment planning for precision placement of magnets and vessels.
• Prepare fabrication plans, vendor oversight, and tool assembly instructions.
• Create on-site work instructions and validate tool functionality during activation.
• Collaborate with tooling engineers, designers, and assembly personnel during on-site work.
