Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Lead/Float Phlebotomist to support multiple Patient Service Centers (PSCs) as needed. This role covers PTO, vacancies, and high-demand times to reduce patient wait times and enable the opening of new PSCs.

You will collect specimens, enter patient data, train PSC staff, and travel to other centers as required. The position emphasizes phlebotomy expertise, strong communication, and the ability to work independently or in a team.

Qualifications

• Phlebotomy certification from ASCP or another accredited agency preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
• Comfortable working with minimal supervision.
• Basic familiarity with computer applications preferred.
• Previous phlebotomy experience preferred.
• One or more years experience in lab Patient Service Centers preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide excellent phlebotomy and phlebotomy-related services for all patients.
• Validate and/or update patient demographic and information in the BILH computer system, or collect and enter it for new patients.
• Collect specimens by venipuncture and capillary techniques for all age groups.
• Prepare specimens for transport to a BILH laboratory.
• Perform administrative and clerical duties to open/operate/close PSC daily.
• Assist in training, coaching, and mentoring PSC Phlebotomists as needed.
• Travel to additional PSCs and doctor’s offices when needed.
• Read, understand, and comply with departmental policies and procedures.
• Report to Phlebotomy Supervisor and receive training.
• Participate in lab QA programs, competency assessments, and continuing education.
• Contribute to high patient satisfaction with services provided.
• Perform other similar tasks as requested by supervisor or Phlebotomy Services Manager.
