Qualifications

• 10+ years of fire protection engineering experience, including energy infrastructure projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering or closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
• P.E. license preferred for Fire Protection Engineering.
• Proven experience working with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to secure approvals and navigate permitting and inspections.
• Strong understanding of building codes (NFPA, IBC, UL 9540/9540A, UL855, etc.).
• Ability to manage external consultants and cross-functional teams across time zones.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert guidance on complex fire safety challenges and risk mitigation.
• Establish company-wide fire protection engineering standards and design criteria.
• Lead national fire protection code and standards committees for energy storage projects.
• Serve as primary technical interface with AHJs, insurers, and independent engineers; travel as needed.
• Oversee BESS fire protection systems and create basis-of-design documents for projects.
• Develop scopes of work, RFQs, and evaluation criteria for 3rd party EOR firms and vendors.
• Manage design deliverables, schedules, and engineering budgets across projects.
• QA/QC of third-party work products to ensure standards and requirements.
• Collaborate with electrical/SCADA disciplines to ensure design consistency.
• Support design optimization and provide technical input during testing and commissioning.
