Job summary

Fifth Third Bank in Chicago, IL seeks an experienced Portfolio Manager II to oversee a commercial loan portfolio, assess risk, and guide underwriting decisions across the deal lifecycle. You will partner with Relationship Managers and Credit Risk, ensuring accurate risk ratings and proactive portfolio monitoring.

The role requires at least 6 years in portfolio management or commercial banking, strong accounting and credit analysis knowledge, and effective client-facing communication.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in portfolio management or commercial banking, ideally in equipment finance.
• Strong understanding of accounting, credit analysis, portfolio management, structuring, underwriting, and legal documentation
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Professional presence (client-facing).
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with risk partners
• Expertise in financial and risk analysis, including financial modeling.

Responsibilities

• Maintain an independent current and forward-looking view on the creditworthiness of each client and communicate this view to business and risk partners.
• Perform monitoring actions; conduct periodic deal reviews; and execute decisions to renew or modify deals.
• Work closely with Credit Risk and Relationship Managers to actively manage the bank's exposure to the clients in the portfolio.
• Analyze historical financials and projections to ensure accurate risk ratings and identify emerging credit problems.
• Manage underwriting, approval and documentation for transactions including money, extensions, amendments, waivers and ancillary products.
• Review and recommend credit decisions; perform final risk rating analysis; provide policy interpretation.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory guidelines.
• Mentor junior team members and provide performance feedback.
• Meet with prospects / clients as needed.
• Create and deliver portfolio performance reports and presentations for senior management.
