Job summary

Thomson Reuters in the United States (hybrid locations including Eagan, MN) seeks a Lead Software Engineer for the CoCounsel Legal Desktop App to establish architecture, shipping native-feeling desktop experiences, and mentoring the team.

You will drive IPC patterns, packaging, and integration with backend services, collaborating with product and design to deliver a scalable solution for legal professionals.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with desktop application focus.
• Experience leading technical direction on a desktop product.
• Track record shipping production desktop applications in enterprise context.
• Hands-on experience with Electron, Tauri, Win32/macOS APIs, or equivalents.
• Experience integrating desktop apps with cloud APIs including streaming and OAuth/SSO.
• Ability to mentor and elevate engineers through code reviews and design discussions.
• Clear technical communicator for engineers and product partners.

Responsibilities

• Establish the technical foundation of the CoCounsel Legal desktop app, making early architecture decisions.
• Deliver hands-on desktop code across core features—main agent experience, file integrations, OS notifications, clipboard, system tray.
• Integrate with the CoCounsel backend, connecting to agent APIs, streaming responses, workspace infrastructure, and authentication flows.
• Define and uphold desktop engineering standards, testing strategies, cross-platform compatibility, and performance benchmarks.
• Mentor and support desktop engineers, pairing on hard problems and growing talent in a greenfield environment.
• Partner with Product and Design to translate requirements into technically sound desktop experiences and surface tradeoffs early.
• Contribute to broader Application Experience engineering community by sharing patterns with peer teams.
