Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Lead Software Engineer for the CoCounsel Legal Desktop App to shape architecture and standards for a native-feeling AI-powered desktop experience on Windows and Mac.

You will lead a new desktop engineering team, deliver production desktop code, and mentor engineers while collaborating with Product, Design, and backend teams to ensure a scalable, secure, and performant desktop product.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with desktop applications for Windows and/or macOS.
• Experience leading technical direction on a desktop product including architecture, packaging, and standards.
• Proven track record shipping production desktop apps in a professional/enterprise context.
• Hands-on experience with desktop frameworks such as Electron, Tauri, or native APIs.
• Experience integrating desktop apps with cloud APIs (streaming, OAuth/SSO, file system).
• Ability to mentor engineers through code reviews and design discussions.
• Clear ability to communicate tradeoffs to engineers and product partners.

Responsibilities

• Establish the technical foundation of the CoCounsel Legal desktop app and make early architecture decisions.
• Deliver hands-on production desktop code across core features and integrations.
• Integrate the desktop app with backend agent and AI platform services.
• Define and uphold desktop engineering standards, tests, and cross‑platform requirements.
• Mentor and support desktop engineers, including pairing on hard problems.
• Collaborate with Product and Design to translate requirements into performant UX.
• Share patterns and insights with other teams building web and mobile experiences.
