Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Lead Software Engineer for the CoCounsel Legal Desktop App in New York. You will establish the technical foundation, define architecture choices (Electron, Tauri, or native), and ship core desktop features while collaborating with product and design to deliver native-feeling AI-powered tools for lawyers.

You will mentor engineers, set engineering standards, and work closely with backend teams to connect desktop experiences with APIs, authentication, and workspace

Qualifications

• 7+ years of software engineering with strong desktop app experience on Windows and/or macOS.
• Proven track record leading technical direction for a desktop product (architecture, packaging, standards).
• Experience shipping production desktop applications in a professional/enterprise setting.
• Hands-on experience with Electron, Tauri, native Win32/macOS APIs, or equivalent.
• Experience integrating desktop apps with cloud APIs (streaming, OAuth/SSO, local file access).
• Ability to mentor engineers through code reviews and design discussions.
• Clear technical communicator able to articulate tradeoffs to engineers and product partners.

Responsibilities

• Define the desktop app architecture, choose frameworks, structure, IPC, packaging, and auto-update infra.
• Contribute production-ready desktop code across core features: main agent, file integrations, OS notifications, clipboard, system tray.
• Integrate the desktop app with backend APIs, including streaming responses, workspace infrastructure, and auth flows.
• Establish and uphold desktop engineering standards: code reviews, testing strategies, cross‑platform compatibility, performance benchmarks.
• Mentor desktop engineers, provide technical guidance, and pair on hard problems in a greenfield environment.
• Collaborate with Product and Design to translate requirements into performant desktop experiences and raise feasibility concerns early.
