Job summary

State of South Carolina is seeking a supervisory security professional to oversee housing unit security and inmate custody under general supervision. The role includes inspections, investigations of misconduct, counts, staff development, and report preparation.

Successful candidates must complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire and meet state requirements for education and experience, with potential substitutions for related degrees.

Qualifications

• High school diploma and relevant experience required.
• Bachelor's degree may substitute for part of the required experience.
• Criminal justice or related degree may substitute for half of the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee supervision of subordinate security assigned to housing units and custody of inmates.
• Perform routine inspections of living areas for security, safety, and sanitation standards.
• Conduct investigations of alleged misconduct by inmates and staff in the area.
• Assist in conducting formal and informal counts.
• Supervise job performance, conduct and appearance of assigned security personnel and prepare evaluations.
• Counsel, recommend disciplinary action, and train subordinate staff to required standards.
• Prepare reports as needed or required.

Education

Bachelor's degree may substitute for required experience

Degree in criminal justice or related field substitution for 1/2 of experience
