Qualifications

• High school diploma and 18 months of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• A criminal justice degree may substitute for half of the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate security assigned to housing units and custody/control of inmates.
• Conduct routine inspections of living areas for security, safety, and sanitation standards.
• Investigate alleged misconduct by inmates and staff under area of responsibility.
• Assist in conducting counts (formal and informal).
• Supervise job performance, conduct, and appearance; prepare employee evaluations.
• Counsel, recommend disciplinary action, and train subordinate staff to required standards.
• Prepare reports as needed or required.
