Qualifications

• Minimum high school graduate or equivalent; related college courses desirable.
• Must be representative of worthwhile qualities with which an inmate can identify; emotionally stable and empathetic.
• Ability to communicate and interact with a variety of personalities.
• Ability to interpret complex written and oral communication, documents, and instructions.
• Ability to give instructions and have them carried out.

Responsibilities

• Supervise correctional personnel in charge of inmates/detainees under general supervision.
• Develop and implement policies, procedures and regulations for custody, security and/or treatment of detainees/inmates.
• Respond to major unusual occurrences and provide appropriate assistance to detainees/inmates.
• Promote an atmosphere conducive to development of detainees and staff through effective facilitation of activities and facilities.
• Direct the work of other employees, including hiring, training, evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
