Job summary

Pearson is seeking an experienced editor to support editorial and assessment content development. The role emphasizes end-to-end copyediting, adherence to industry style guides, and collaboration across editorial and publishing platforms.

The position involves applying client style guidelines, maintaining consistency across assessments, and contributing to training and process improvements. It also references AI-enabled workflows to enhance content while ensuring editorial oversight.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., literature, language, journalism) or equivalent certification/on‑the‑job training.
• Minimum of three years’ editorial experience and two years’ educational assessment experience.
• Demonstrates strong end‑to‑end copyediting proficiency: spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, diction, and usage.
• Interprets and applies major style and usage references (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style, Gregg Reference Manual, Garner’s Modern English Usage).

Responsibilities

• Implements grammar, spelling, usage, punctuation, syntax, and style per department, client, and industry standards; applies rules consistently.
• Ensures uniformity and consistency across assessment components; sustains focus and identifies errors throughout the workday.
• Exerts good judgment when applying client style guidelines; queries deviations when appropriate; may create/modify client style guidelines.
• Understands the copyeditor’s scope of responsibility and flags concerns when needed.
• Proactively seeks learning opportunities to strengthen editorial expertise and knowledge of style guides.
