Job summary

CVS Health Enterprise Technology is seeking a Lead Cloud Engineer for the Observability Platform to design, build, and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines across multi-cloud environments. You will leverage OpenTelemetry and modern tooling to enable scalable, secure observability for thousands of workloads.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with SRE and platform teams, and drive reliable, cost-efficient telemetry services while advancing platform standards and incident response

Qualifications

• 7+ years of Software Engineering experience.
• 5+ years observability practice including SLOs/SLIs/SLAs and incident management.
• 5+ years building production-grade backends in Go and/or Java.
• 5+ years implementing and operating OpenTelemetry (OTLP).
• 5+ years cloud-native and containerized platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD).
• 5+ years with public cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• 3+ years designing and scaling distributed data pipelines.
• 3+ years with Helmcharts/Kustomize, 3+ years Grafana OSS or equivalents.
• 3+ years IaC tools (Terraform or CloudFormation).
• 3+ years with relational databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services using Go, Python, Java (Spring Boot).
• Lead enterprise-wide adoption of OpenTelemetry and related instrumentation patterns.
• Architect and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces).
• Develop self-service observability capabilities to simplify onboarding for app teams.
• Implement end-to-end monitoring with SLOs, health checks, and alerting.
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to set reliability standards and incident practices.
• Mentor engineers, conduct design reviews, and guide cross-team platform direction.
• Automate workflows and improve CI/CD to reduce manual toil.
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secrets management.
• Produce technical documentation and standards for platform usage.
• Engage with internal teams to influence roadmap and deliver platform improvements.
