Job summary

CVS Health Enterprise Technology seeks a Lead Cloud Engineer to shape and scale the Observability Platform across CVS. You will architect telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces) for billions of events across multiple cloud providers, mentoring engineers and driving secure, reliable platform features.

You will collaborate with SRE and application teams, implementing OpenTelemetry and end-to-end monitoring, while delivering high-quality documentation and platform improvements.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
• 5+ years observability practices, including SLIs/SLOs/SLAs, alerting, incident management.
• 5+ years backend services in Go and/or Java.
• 5+ years implementing and operating OpenTelemetry (OTLP, semantic conventions, instrumentation).
• 5+ years with cloud-native/container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD).
• 5+ years with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• 3+ years designing and scaling distributed, high-volume data pipelines.
• 3+ years with Helmcharts, Kustomize, etc.
• 3+ years with Grafana OSS or similar observability backends.
• 3+ years with IaC tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• 3+ years with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services using Go, Python, Java (Spring Boot).
• Lead enterprise-wide adoption of OpenTelemetry including client libraries and instrumentation patterns.
• Architect and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces) for cost efficiency.
• Develop self-service observability capabilities to simplify onboarding for app teams.
• Implement end-to-end monitoring of the platform with SLOs and health checks.
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to establish reliability standards and incident practices.
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident mitigation and post-incident reviews.
• Automate workflows via CI/CD enhancements and platform automation.
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secrets management.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation and best practices.
• Engage with internal teams to influence roadmap and deliver platform improvements.
• Provide technical leadership through design reviews and cross-team mentorship.
