Job summary

CVS Health is seeking a Lead Cloud Engineer for the Observability Platform to shape and scale telemetry pipelines across multiple clouds and data centers. You will design core services in Go, Python, and Java, and mentor engineers on best practices.

You will collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to implement reliable, secure telemetry with OpenTelemetry and modern tooling. This is a full-time, on-site role in Michigan with strong growth opportunity.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in Software Engineering with a focus on observability and reliability.
• 5+ years building production-grade backend services in Go and/or Java.
• 5+ years implementing and operating OpenTelemetry and instrumentation patterns.
• 5+ years with cloud-native platforms (Docker, Kubernetes, Argo CD).
• 5+ years with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• 3+ years designing scalable distributed data pipelines.
• 3+ years with Helmcharts, Kustomize, etc.
• 3+ years with Grafana OSS or similar observability backends.
• 3+ years with IaC tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
• 3+ years with PostgreSQL, MySQL.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core observability platform services using Go, Python, Java (Spring Boot).
• Lead enterprise-wide adoption of OpenTelemetry and related tooling.
• Architect and scale high-throughput telemetry pipelines (logs, metrics, traces).
• Develop self-service observability capabilities to ease onboarding and troubleshooting.
• Implement end-to-end monitoring, define SLOs, health checks, and alerts.
• Collaborate with SRE, Platform, and Cloud teams to set reliability standards.
• Participate in on-call rotations and lead incident reviews and RCA.
• Automate workflows and improve CI/CD and platform automation.
• Ensure secure telemetry pipelines with mTLS and secrets management.
• Produce and maintain platform docs and best practices.
• Engage with internal teams to influence roadmap and deliver improvements.
• Provide technical leadership through design reviews and cross-team collaboration.
