Job summary

Qualus is seeking a Lead Civil Structural Engineer in our Engineering department. You will design and detail mat and pier foundations for substation structures and ranging equipment supports, applying codes and client standards.

Expect to develop substation designs, from basic arrangements to rigid bus layouts and bill of materials. We value quality, cost-conscious design, and collaboration with clients and internal teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited institution.
• 6+ years of experience performing civil structural engineering calculations.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Proficient with drafting programs such as AutoCAD and MicroStation.
• Experience in transmission, distribution and generating stations is a plus.
• Strong analytical and computer skills; able to identify required software for design work.

Responsibilities

• Develop overall conceptual design plans in the initial development phase of new projects.
• Work with renewable energy developers and other clients with support for schedules and cost estimates.
• Design foundations using software such as LPILE.
• Develop steel structure models for rigid bus and equipment supports.
• Perform QA/QC processes per company standards.
• Maintain professional relationships with external partners and present information to clients.
• Participate in client meetings and site visits to collect or deliver design data.
• Mentor less experienced staff on technical and project management skills.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
