Job summary

The Town of Thompsons Station seeks a Building Official to supervise Building and Code Inspector positions, review plans, and inspect residential, commercial, and public buildings for code compliance.

You will issue permits, coordinate Certificates of Occupancy, advise architects and contractors, and lead a team in enforcing town codes, property maintenance rules, and the Land Development Ordinance while ensuring public safety and compliance across projects.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of building materials, methods of construction, and building codes.
• Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
• Proficiency with commonly used computer software such as Microsoft Office and Bluebeam Revu.
• Eight (8) years in building construction or inspection plus one (1) year of administrative and or lead supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Issue building permits and manage issuance processes.
• supervise Building Inspectors and Codes Staff and ensure safety training.
• Coordinate Certificates of Occupancy and project documentation.
• Attend meetings (BOMA, Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals) to provide technical expertise.
• Enforce town codes, property maintenance codes, and the Land Development Ordinance.
• Provide technical guidance to architects, engineers, contractors, and the public.
