Job summary

Cushman & Wakefield in Arlington, VA is seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the engineering team, manage the mechanical operations, and ensure highest quality work and customer service aligned with client expectations.

The Chief Engineer will supervise staff, drive safety, budgeting, and preventive maintenance programs, coordinating with asset services and the engineering leadership to deliver reliable building operations.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of related work experience in a commercial property setting
• High School Diploma or GED
• Vocational/Technical training certificate
• Appropriate license/permit for trade (Journeyman or Master Electrician) or city licenses
• Universal Technician for CFCs depending on market licensure requirements
• Financial knowledge for reading budgets and reporting
• Familiar with Energy Management System (EMS)/fire alarm systems
• Basic computing skills in Outlook, Excel & Word

Responsibilities

• Supervise engineers and maintenance staff, including hiring and training.
• Lead performance management and staff development via HR processes.
• Coordinate annual safety program and ensure 100% site compliance.
• Manage operating budgets and variance reporting for properties.
• Oversee building systems: fire/safety, plumbing, HVAC, electrical.
• Develop preventive maintenance programs and schedules.
• Coordinate with contractors and tenants on maintenance tasks.
• Respond to emergencies and customer concerns promptly.
