Job summary

Hy-Vee’s bakery team seeks a dedicated Baker to prepare and bake all department products, from proofing to frying, while leading bakery clerks and ensuring quality. You’ll set production schedules, monitor stock and freshness, and collaborate with store teams to fulfill orders.

You will manage order timelines, supervise safety and sanitation, and provide friendly service to customers. A high school diploma is required; bakery experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; department training helpful.
• Over six months to one year of related bakery experience preferred.
• Bakery operations knowledge is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Greet customers with a smile and assist them throughout the store.
• Check orders for the day and set up production timelines; prioritize special orders.
• Prepare, bake, fry, and portion department products; manage proofing and cooling as needed.
• Review product freshness; anticipate needs for current and upcoming days.
• Inspect incoming products for quality and quantity; identify mispicks.
• Lead bakery clerks and provide guidance; maintain department standards.
• Ensure correct labeling and signage; monitor safety issues in the department.
• Maintain sanitation; keep work areas clean, neat, and safe at all times.
