Job summary

Hy-Vee is seeking a friendly Baker to join our Bakery department. You’ll prepare, bake, proof, and finish products for display and customer orders, delivering quality from our ovens daily.

You’ll lead bakery clerks, manage production schedules, check freshness, and ensure proper sanitation while providing helpful service to shoppers with a smile. Experience in a fast-paced kitchen, high school diploma, and willingness to learn are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent experience; department training is helpful.
• Over six months up to one year of similar or related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting customers with a smile.
• Prepare, bake, fry, and pull products from freezer or cooler, following schedules.
• Review product for freshness and pull by stale date; anticipate needs for today and future days.
• Inspect incoming products for quality and quantity; identify mispicks.
• Order supplies and merchandise for the department as directed.
• Write the department schedule and ensure coverage in the Bakery Manager's absence.
• Practice proper sanitation and keep the work area clean, neat, and safe at all times.
• Answer the phone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers.
