Job summary

United States Postal Service is seeking a Lead Automotive Technician to supervise lower level technicians and perform the most complex vehicle repairs in a maintenance facility. The role requires diagnosing diverse issues, offering technical guidance, and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Applicants must complete exams, meet driving requirements, and pass background checks. The position is based at the Virginia District in Sterling, VA with a starting annual salary of $74,422 and

Qualifications

  • Troubleshooting and diagnosis across automotive systems using test equipment.
  • Knowledge of automotive test equipment (VAT, VOM, scanners, gas analyzers).
  • Repair and rebuild of electrical/mechanical systems including emissions and fuel delivery.
  • Record keeping and estimating repair times (ERT).
  • Ability to work safely with others and independently when needed.
  • Must meet driving requirements and training prerequisites.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose operating difficulties on vehicles and perform checks including emissions and electronic systems.
  • Perform computerized diagnostic tests and interpret trouble codes with service manuals.
  • Conduct road tests before/after maintenance and annotate issues on work orders.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctions and identify faulty parts.
  • Schedule and assign work; maintain maintenance records and labor hours.
  • Provide guidance to mechanics and technicians on complex repairs and equipment.
  • Adhere to safety standards and environmental regulations.
