Job summary

United States Postal Service in Sterling, VA seeks a Lead Automotive Technician to oversee lower-level technicians and perform the most complex repairs on postal fleet vehicles. You will provide technical guidance, maintain records, and ensure safety and compliance in a vehicle maintenance facility.

The role requires diagnosing a range of systems, using electronic diagnostic tools, and coordinating work assignments while training staff and upholding safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Observe, test, analyze, and isolate trouble in automotive systems.
  • Proficient with electrical/electronic diagnostic equipment (VAT, VOM, scanners, gas analyzers).
  • Replace parts, adjust, and rebuild electrical/engine systems as needed.
  • Record information and complete parts requests and estimated repair times.
  • Work safely with others to diagnose and repair issues.
  • Plan and execute work without direct supervision, adhering to safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose operating difficulties on a variety of vehicles and perform checks on engines and subsystems.
  • Perform computerized and electronic diagnostic tests using specialized equipment; read trouble codes and data.
  • Conduct road tests before/after maintenance and annotate issues on work orders.
  • Troubleshoot vehicle problems from road calls and identify faulty parts.
  • Maintain vehicle maintenance records and training for staff on repairs and equipment.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to lower level technicians and helpers.
